In late 2021, Pastor Shawna assembled a task force of members who identified practices that help us to embody our mission statement — love God, love people, and serve the world. These practices are a culmination of who we have been, who we are, and who we will continue to be.

Christ-Centered Worship

Trevecca Community Church is an intergenerational church who gathers on Sunday Mornings to respond to what God has done in the lives of our church family Monday through Saturday. Each week, we participate in worship centered around the life of Jesus, through prayer, singing, giving, service, hearing the Word, gathering around the Table, and being sent out into the world as agents of love and mercy. In our church’s worship life, we participate in liturgy that marks us as followers of Jesus, leaving room for great celebration, grief, honor, wrestling, and faithful response to the call of God. We are not characterized by a style of presentation - but of a posture of our hearts.

Prayerful Listening

Trevecca Community Church is a church that teaches and dedicates space to prayer and contemplation. It is through these practices that we are to listen to the voice of God, discern the work of the Spirit, and develop a holy imagination of what God can accomplish through us. We also listen to our brothers and sisters as God reconciles us to one another. This teaches us how to listen to our neighbors and hear how God might be at work in their lives.

Formational storytelling

Trevecca Community Church is a church shaped by the story of God in scripture and the story of the church, specifically, Nazarenes in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. These stories form and shape our identity and we intentionally curate and communicate stories that shape a holy people. We actively share our identity through educational and engaging storytelling. These scripture-centered stories, told in intergenerational community, build a foundation for discipleship. The stories that shape our faith become an avenue to share that faith with our neighbor.

Making room

Trevecca Community Church is a church that practices Christian hospitality with any and every neighbor in need of welcome. In every area of church life, we intentionally make room for strangers to join our community and bring friends. When we come together as equals at the table of Jesus, we are reminded of both our unique identities as children of God and the importance of journeying through life together with others.

bridging + binding communities

Trevecca Community Church is a church in a strategic position bordered by Trevecca Nazarene University, Trevecca Towers, Trevecca Health Care, Walden Village and the J.C. Napier district. The name Trevecca means “a binding together.” We build bridges between these communities and bind neighbors together in holy love to transform the world in the shape of God’s Kingdom. Within our congregation we build bridges between generations, binding a community of all ages. To reach our Neighbors we need not just give charity or handouts but share stories, develop mutual respect, and build enduring relationships. Through active listening and showing up regularly within our community, we practice neighboring at its deepest level and act as a bridge between the resources of our local community to the world beyond.

Equipping, Empowering, + Sending

Trevecca Community Church is a church that teaches, equips and empowers its members to participate in the mission of God. We help our members discern God’s calling and empower them to fulfill that calling. We invest in, develop and send out servant leaders to local, national and international communities who are equipped and prepared to answer the call that is unique to them.
