Our Staff

After much prayer and conversation with the church board and staff, Rev. Shawna Songer Gaines has accepted the call to be the pastor of Trevecca Community Church.

The process delineated by the manual of the Church of the Nazarene has served us well. The leaders of our church, district, and denomination are pleased and excited that God has led in this direction.

We started this pastoral search with the following verses:
Psalm 37:3-5 (NASB):
"Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He will do it."

As we move toward Step #10 in our Checklist, let us "Trust in the LORD", "Delight ourselves in the LORD", and "Commit our ways to the LORD". We serve a faithful God.

Thank you for your prayers for our church and our new pastor. Please continue those prayers during this transition for both our church and for her family.

After receiving a B.A. degree in Worship Arts in 2014, Jordan Guthrie has served our church in various roles. In 2018, he accepted the call to become Worship Pastor. He plans and leads worship in both gatherings (choir, orchestra, praise team, Courts band), coordinates any tech needs for worship and our tech team, helps coordinate communion and servers each week, and also is responsible for various administrative tasks as Communications Director. Jordan is currently pursuing ordination in the Church of the Nazarene and just received his District Minister’s License. Worship and music have been cornerstones in Jordan’s life since growing up in the Florida home of a Minister of Music. Primarily a drummer, Jordan had great mentors around him who continued to drive and work hard toward leading well. For Jordan, everything we do in congregational worship is the work of the people. By removing distractions in worship by pursuing excellence, our worship teams strive to create freedom in the room so the Spirit of God can move and speak freely in the hearts and minds of those in attendance. Jordan loves to hear his church sing. When he was a student at Trevecca Nazarene University, Jordan was a member of music ministry teams, leading worship at churches, camps, and retreats across our region. He continues to mentor the current student groups at Trevecca and mentors a LINK group for incoming freshmen. He was also a founding member of Harbour, a worship band formed to lead worship for Nazarene Youth Conference in Louisville, KY in 2015. Leading worship for camps and retreats is still a part of Jordan’s ministry and he is grateful for those opportunities. Jordan lives in Nashville, but is never home. Jordan loves going out to the movies or shows, getting tan, and pretending that he cooks (he has mastered 3 meals… 4 if you count sandwiches). But above all, Jordan loves being the son of Brad and Melissa, the brother of Mallory and Parker, the brother-in-law of Jon and Heather, and the proudest uncle in the world of Zara Mae, Stella Monroe, and Etta Lynn.

Tina serves as Compassionate Ministries Pastor. It is a heart of compassion that drew her to this church and the surrounding community in 2002. Troubled by the poverty and crime surrounding our campus, Tina was determined to do something about it and is grateful to serve a church body who embraces that vision and loves and welcomes all who attend TCC. Tina, an ordained Elder, has been certified by the National Institute of Corrections as an Offender Workforce Development Specialist (OWDS) where she also qualified as an Instructor (OWDSI) and is a credentialed Global Career Development Specialist (GCDF). Tina grew up in a home that she describes as practicing “churchianity”. However, as a young adult she came to the Nazarene Church and found salvation, freedom from bondage, and embraced and received the grace to live a truly transformed life. While living in Guam with her Air Force Husband, Billy, God called Tina to full-time Christian service. She completed the Nazarene ministers course of study and was ordained Elder in 2002. While driving on Murfreesboro Road one day, God spoke to Tina and called her to serve the hopeless and hurting we see every day on this major Nashville thoroughfare, known for its’ drug traffic, prostitution and poverty. TCC responded, walking through doors God opened to start our jail ministry that has reached thousands of inmates in Davidson County. Our recovery ministry began when ex-offenders began attending TCC, having been invited while attending our jail services. Tina is also the founding and Executive Director of CrossBridge, Inc. a non-profit launched in 2006 with a strong and ongoing partnership with TCC. TCC plays a vital role in the CrossBridge programs; Restoration House and KidPOWER. This collaborative relationship with CrossBridge, Trevecca Community Church and Trevecca Nazarene University is a model for reaching communities struggling with the effects of generational poverty. Tina knows she’s incredibly blessed to serve God leading this life-transforming ministry. She and her husband Billy, live in Hermitage, have 3 grown daughters; Stacy, Patty and Christina, 2 wonderful sons-in-law, Clint and Devon, and two amazing grandchildren, Payton and Parker. She’s an avid reader and cyclist and enjoys riding Nashville’s beautiful greenways.

Bill was practicing law in Nashville when the Lord called him into pastoral ministry in 1993. He was serving as Senior Pastor of Trinity Church of the Nazarene when Dwight Gunter asked Bill and Leslie to join his staff at the Richardson Church on the Dallas District in 1995. In 2002, they returned to Nashville and rejoined Dwight’s staff as TCC’s University Pastor and Children’s Pastor. Drawing on his legal experience in mediation, litigation, contracts, construction and systems development, Bill served as Executive Pastor through all phases of TCC’s building program. Working closely with Pastor Tina Mitchell, Bill also played a key role in developing TCC’s Recovery Ministry and CrossBridge, Inc. As his involvement with CrossBridge grew, Bill transitioned to a part-time role at TCC as Co-Pastor of Recovery & Jail Ministries. He currently serves as CrossBridge Vice-President & General Counsel and Restoration House Co-Director. Additional roles include teacher, writer, strategist, analyst, spiritual advisor, and pastoral counselor. In short, Bill continues to serve where needed, as he has since experienced the full measure of God’s amazing love in 1991. Through Christ, he has been redeemed and remade, pardoned from sin, liberated from shame, adopted by God, and given new life. Bill simply sees himself as a grateful beggar, willing to share the Bread of Life with anyone hungry for wholeness and healing. Hailing from a culturally diverse military background, Bill spent nearly half his childhood and adolescence overseas in Japan, Germany, France, and Iran. Bill was a professional musician, served in the Army Reserves, held public office as an elected alderman, and taught law and political science as an adjunct TNU professor. Bill earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Vanderbilt, his Master’s degree in Theology from Trevecca, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Bill and Leslie (also an ordained elder) have three children and four grandchildren.
